Cecyliańska odnowa muzyki kościelnej w diecezji krakowskiej

Abstrakt:

The Cecilian Movement in Poland up to 1939, that is, the outbreak of the WWII, had been a fascinating history of people and their splendid deeds. It was Regensburg with its “Cecilian Association”, and later “The School of Sacred Music” from where an impetus came to develop the Church-wide “Cecilian Movement” as a movement of sacred chant revival. It quickly found a fertile ground to develop also on the Polish land. The first signs of the revival of the sacred music in Poland were visible in 1869 in Pelplin. Since then the revival, flourishing in Europe, had been officially adopted on the Polish land.
The history of the church music in Krakow had its glorious moments in the general history of the church chant. Thus there were the events which were recollected for many years on, but also such which were hidden during the liturgy in diocesan churches. The time of the church music revival during the cecilian era is an interesting part of history, during which numerous efforts to give the church music its significant place back were made. All the people involved in this movement deserve a deep gratitude for their magnificent works since they were those who, through God the Creator’s inspiration, laid the foundations for further development of the area of music which is an integral part of solemn liturgy (KL /Catechism of the Catholic Church).
