G. Frege (1848-1925) one of the greatest logicians of the twentieth century and author of many philosophical papers which have given impetus to the development of analytical philosophy was also interested in metaphysical issues such as existence. In 1883 he discussed this problem with B. Pünjer, a jung Protestant theologian and philosopher who died prematurely in 1885. The record of their exchange, which was originally held at the University of Jenna, was brought to wider public only recently, when Frege’s posthumous works were published in 1969. Below we print the first Polish translation of the Frege-Pünjer debate as well as a short introduction to their dispute.
