W poszukiwaniu piękna. Refleksje kompozytora w kontekście «Listu do Artystów» Jana Pawła II

Abstrakt:

Artists, ingenious creators of beauty - in their profession and vocation are included relations and coexistence with beauty, its discovering and aiming. The moment of completing a musical work is like 'a touch of beauty'.
Art as a domain of aesthetical experiences was connected with beauty before. The XX century's and contemporary crisis of beauty in art causes questions about the essence and the present aim of artistic creation. This lec¬ture is an attempt of answering, taken up by a composer and teacher, after reading Letter of Holiness Pope John Paul II to Artists, with a context of music of Cracow's Composers' School.
Examples - music. Mateusz Bień - Osiris. Przypowieść: like a recording of creation of musical universe from a single sound. Marek Stachowski - Di¬vertimento for string orchestra: a perfect balance between modern expression and classical elegance of musical form; contemplation of musical architec¬ture and detail. Krystyna Moszumańska-Nazar - Fantasy for solo marimbap-hone: a musical tract about beauty formulated in abstract sounds; From End to End Percussion for 1 percussionist: a fervent declaration of love for life, man and the Creator.
Being an artist - reflecting on surrounding world, human being, your¬self and your work, your vocation. The individual and community need the art for interpreting the world and life. The artist is called upon to a ministry. Meeting the beauty makes us better and more beautiful. The craftsman uses something that already exists, to which he gives form and meaning.
Freedom and the liberty of artistic creation. Aesthetical subjectivism of modern art (E. Kant). Vision of art as a result of technical competences, intel¬lectual game, artistic provocation. Newness cult. End of true art? Decline of beauty? U. Eco: „XX-century's fight between provocative and consumer beauty. John Paul II's voice of hope showing the sense of modern art: May the beauty which you pass on to generations still to come be such that it will stir them to wonder1.
Beauty is the vocation bestowed on him [an artist] by the Creator in the gift of "artistic talent". Increasing that talent = a task for students and teachers at the artistic schools. The art as a transmitter of values.
So, the beauty was and still is inscribed in a true art. Modern media may help in revealing it to the people living nowadays. It may be a moment of expressing an individual artistic truth - and of meeting the Creator. Mod¬ern music - an ocean of human experiences and feelings. I don't believe the art ever to be exhausted. The values never pass away. AGE OF BEAUTY IS FOR EVER.
